I am finishing an ipe front porch.  Last year I used Cabot’s Auatralian Timber oil, Looked OK at first, but in all the weather exposed areas it was gone in 8-9 months.  I realize the problem is the density/oil content of the wood.  Is there another option (other than leting it weather)?  I have read that there are stains specifically formulated for woods like ipe.  Are they really any better?  Is there anything to put on the stained surface that might make it hold up better?  Wax?  I do not want to use a film-forming finish (I made that mistake a few years back).   Appreciate any help.
