I built my own downdraft table a while ago with plans from an issue of Woodsmith published quite a few years ago (15?) I’ve been using regular 20″ x 20″ x 2″ furnace filters as the filtration device. But now I’m wondering if I can do better since I’ve read that regular filter media used in air handling usually filters down to 3 microns or so. Would going to HEPA be better. Or should I simply scrap the filters and consider modifying the air flow and think about using some sort of singed felt fabric media?

ted,
Why not hook it up to your dust collector if you have one?

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
Not practical in my application.
Google 3M and other higher end filters. Some sold as allergy filters they cost a bit more but have good rateings compared to the regular old 2.99 filter.
