Few weeks ago my Shop Vac (also the brand) had a complete meltdown, which was kind of annoying since it was only about 2 yrs old.
Did an advanced search and after raeding through all of your feedback decided to go with the Fein Turbo III.
Just recieved it a few days ago and Holy Cow. It’s as quite as a church mouse and could suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. The auto start feature is awesome. It is a little pricey but as we all know, well made tools are.
On the downside. I hooked it up to my random orbital sander for a quick sand on a shelf I had just built and there wasn’t a speck of dust anywhere, but when I was laying in bed later that night I was kind of bumbed out to find there were no wood boogies. Guess you gotta take the good with the bad.
Seriously though, I think I picked a winner(no pun intended).

I've had mine for about 8 months now and like it alot.
Sure is quieter.
I bought one as we were finishing our new house, thinking it would end up in the shop. My wife likes it so much, I can't take it to the shop. Other than that, it's a fine machine!
gee, maybe you could start wearing fuzzier shirts so the belly button lint will compensate. if you're really desperate, start using charmin- it's famous for leaving excessive....

I'll second that and add that these tools are quite durable as well as quiet and powerful. We have 12 of them in our shop and they run an average of 3 hours a day. The oldest one is 6 years now, never had a motor failure. The filter bag does need replacing after several years. This is a great tool, though, I would highly recommend it.

Circlekid: Have had mine for about 1.5 years. Couldn't believe I would ever spend that much for a shopvac, especially when Sears sells them for 90 bucks. However, once seen (and not heard), along with the auto start feature you described, it would be difficult to ever think of living w/o my T3. I just find that I use a vacuum when sanding or routing freehand so much more than I ever did before owning it. From that perspective, probably saving my lungs a little bit of work.
Robbie: Agree with you 100% on the "saving the lungs" part. The air in my basement shop seemed to be completely free of dust when I was done sanding. If the vac didn't have auto start I would have never even bothered hooking it up to the ROS. Finally, I feel like I got two tools for the price of one. I had been shying away from using the ROS lately because of the amount of dust it created. It's nice to have it back in the fold without having to feel like crab when i'm done.

Here's something I don't necessarily recommend but have worked for me in the past. I have a Turbo II, but it's the same motor as the Turbo III so the same goes. To use the auto-start feature, the switch is set to auto. However, when the switch is set to manual, the onboard outlet is still "hot". You could plug a tool in and run it without the vacuum turning on. Sometimes, the Fein is the only outlet that is conveniently accessible. Therefore, besides being a great vacuum, your Fein is also the most expensive extension cord you own!
What diameter is the hose?
Not positive. Same as my shop vac which I guess was about 2.25" dia.
So it's the "thick" hose that can actually pick stuff up rather than the "thin" hose that you use just for dust? How much did the vac cost, if you don't mind my asking?
$274.00 at Amazon. That includes shipping and handling.
