I need to glue a sheet of copper to a substrate for outdoor use. (Copper on both sides).
I was thinking about exterior MDF (Extira or similar).
Is there a better choice of substrate?
What glue should I use if bonding in a vacuum press?

Depending on the exact application and thickness needed here you may want to use MDO or sign board .
Not sure on what glue is best .

Don't folks use the manufacturers tech support?
Epoxy. Check with the manufacturer if unsure of the application. System Three, West Systems, MAS all carried by http://www.jamestowndistributors.com
Yes I do Rick. But their FAQ doesn't list an adhesive recommended for extira to non-ferrous metal or any metal for that matter.I find that people in the field often provide better info. Thanks for the lead on epoxy.Greg

I have had very good success gluing metal to wood substrates using the poly adhesive (Gorilla Glue for example). Epoxy ought to work also although is just seems to me that when I use epoxy on metal I have to be extra sure to remove all contaminants or risk bond failure. That doesn't seem to be as much of an issue with the poly adhesives. You will want to wrap the work in plastic sheathing when in the vacuum bag. Poly, in particular, will bond to your bag. Abrade the metal (give it some tooth) by sanding before glue-up.
Make sure you check with the manufacturer before taking my
advice (legal disclaimer).
I spent five years making aluminum panels, that upon occasion
had a wooden frame.
"Wick's aircraft supply" sells "Hysol Glue" it's a two part
epoxy that cures at room temp.
Extremely strong, and will work on a broad range of materials.
The exact epoxy number is escaping me at the moment.
Maybe- Hysol 2110.
The cure temp. will be the giveaway in the cat.
