What would you use to install Hardiboard Vertical Panels as siding?
Anything installed between it and studs?
What type of fasteners?

You needn't ask around. Just go to http://www.jameshardie.com and download detailed installation instructions. It will tell you that you will need a weather resistive barrier (Tyvek, etc. and complete flashing) and galvanized (preferably hot dipped) or stainless fasteners, etc. Unless manufacturers instructions are followed completely any warrantee could be voided.
