Experience w/ Laguna Platinum 10″ Saw
I am looking for opinions/review from anyone with first hand knowledge of the quality and performance of Laguna’s Platinum Series Cabinet Saw. Specifically the model with single belt drive and dove tail key ways on the trunnion assembly.
Thanks

Actually, I was just talking with Laguna about that exact saw on Friday. I'm either going that way, or am buying a Powermatic PM2000. The Laguna, in my mind, had a couple of features I liked, dovetail guides being high amoung them. The PM2000 has a somewhat different list of likes.
I don't have much info either, other than what Laguna could tell me, but I'll pass that along to you for what little it's worth.
Pluses -
Door to door delivery with tailgate service.
Dovetail ways
Nice cosmetics (in my mind)
Riving knife
Looks well thougth out.
Minuses -
Only one riving knife assembly available (no low-rise one for sloting work, etc.)
The river and guard is not quick release - it's bolted in
No built-in mobility base (PM and Grizzly get that right)
Otherwise, in my mind, both saws are pretty nice and are more than I need (but not more than I want (smile)) as a hobbyist.
As I really need the wheels and the riving knife/safety features are key to why I'm leaving my old contractor's saw behind, I've decided on Powermatic, but Laguna was a close second.
The Powermatic gold is really ugly - but that's my only real negative with the machine, other than price....Woodcraft here is about to do a 10% off sale on it, so that helps anyway. The Laguna is just a bit less counting the shipping.
I guess you're aware the Laguna pricing goes up April 1st?
Happy mitering....
If you don't like the number one ugly (colour), check out this site. It might make the number two ugly (price) uglier, though.

What a great website! Makes you wish you were in the market for a tablesaw.
Neat site although the price of the saw is starting to get close to a sawstop:)Troy
