Fine Woodworking,

I am trying to figure out the best way to apply edge banding to plywood for a small cabinet shop. I know that there is pressure sensitive edge banding, heat sensitive edge banding, and I worked for one person who would use spray adhesive to bond his edge banding to the plywood. One other product that I have heard about is speed tape from fast cap.

I was wondering if you had any experience with the durability of speed tape or spray adhesive for applying edge banding verses heat or pressure sensitive edge banding. I want to watch the cost, but I do not want the client to call me back telling me that the edge banding is peeling off.

Thank you,

Hans,
Take a look at the series by Mario Rodriguez. He goes in depth on the various options from banding to solid wood. There's a Video and Article.
I'm not sure Mario actually compares the various types of banding (heat, pressure, and glue-it-yourself), but I'm pretty confident that the heat and glue-it-yourself types are superior to the pressure sensitive edging, with the heat being easier to apply.
