I have a Woodtek cabinet style hybred saw with a zero tolerence insert. I have hooked it up to a JDS 1 1/2 hp -1250 CFM dust collector. I have only one machine hooked up at once. My problem is there still seems to be a lot of saw dust flying around and when I open the cabinet there is a lot of sawdust left inside. I notice that the saw has a large vent on one side which I assume is there to cool the motor. I am wondering if this is letting in too much air and keeping the suction away from the blade. Any one with ideas? Thanks Nick

Yep.. probably there to cool the motor. You have to have the same amount of square inch open space somewhere in the cabinet as you have in the dust hose and I assume you use a 4" duct. So.. the opening may be too much. Keep in mind you likely have an opening for the slot that your tilt shaft runs through. Using a ZCIP usually that is enough. So.. I suggest throwin a piece of duct tape over the tilt shaft slot to see if it helps.
And I wil mention that with only collection from below.. you are still going to get some saw-duct build-up in the corner of the cabinet you have to vacuum out every so often. I run a 6" cyclone hose to the base of my 5 HP and it won't get it all. And that line is direct from the cyclone with no other ducting to machines nor any turns.
And.. until you go over-head with collection there will always be sawdust on top of the table as not all of it is going to pass down through the plate inside the blade gullet. Just ain't going to happen. I have a 2 1/2" line direct from a 5 HP Shop Vac to my upper dust shield. You will still fine some small particles that escape even then. It's a cruel; world but reality requires you to deal with that. ha.. ha...
Thanks Sarge i am going to work on collecting dust from the top.
Sawdust is similar to river silt. Any place there is a change in direction or velocity the dust will settle out. If you have a 14" bandsaw with a cast frame, there are a number of nooks and crannies that alway collect a specific amount of dust. Once the pocket is full, the dust collects somewhere else.
Best just to ignore it as long as it is contained within the cabinet.

Jonnieboy,
Flour silos are built with 70 degree slopes to the bottom and they still don't always "drain" properly. What could help is a vibrator attached to the problem area (but is it worth it?)
Dave,
I'm sort of over it now, but had you asked me when I was building the thing I would have said, "Yes, an automatic shaker! That's exactly what I need!"
You know how it gets in the heat of the project. Ideas flyin' all over the place. Sometimes I latch onto the wrong ones.
