   The short answer is yes.  Just do an internet search on lathe dust collection to see what is available.  Here is a link to a cheap lathe dust port by Rockler.  http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=10578.  I don't know if it is any good, but the price is right.

   I have seen the item in your link, however, I am hoping for advice from someone who has used a lathe extensively and knows what does and what does not work regarding dust collection around lathes.

   I set up mine with one of those large "hood" type catchers and set it in a slot (with a stretch of wood) so I can slide it to the area of the lathe where I'm using it.

   Yeah. Behind the lathe I set up a wood strip with a slot in it, in which just nests the bottom edge of the collection hood. I can slide it left or right to the area in which I'm working the lathe. (Hood is hooked up to about 6' of flexible hose). Not a perfect solution, but best I could come up with. But I usually don't use it when making my major shape forming because running that durned dust collector for blocks of time on end get on my nerves. I use it primarily when I'm sanding on the lathe. As for the preliminary chip cutting sessions, I just let it drop then blow it out or sweep it up.

   Thanks Denny.  I like the idea of the slot and being able to slide it left or right. 

   I was hoping for some magical solution that sucks away 90% of the chips, but that would have to be chest high between me and the lathe apparently.

   Maybe the big gulp, as I have heard it called, elminates some of the finer dust.  I do wear a dust mask and hearing protectors whenever I have the dust collector on.  At 62 I want to protect all the hearing I have.

   The only way I know to do that would be to build a custom hood (1/4" ply maybe) with a duct shute that set itself all the way across the back of the lathe. Finish it with some glossy poly to promote sliding of the waste materials. Actually, now that I think about it, that wouldn't be so hard to do.

   A lathe is something I use only on rare occasions so it's not a biggie for me. Joiners, planers and sanders are what produce the most mess for me. Also the band saw but dust collection on my bandsaw is piss poor at best.
