Greetings, all. I am stumped on something. I’ve built a kitchen cabinet that has a drawer for silverware, etc. This drawer is mounted in a 6″ high opening; the drawer is 3 1/2″ high. The space above the drawer is intended to house a pull-out cutting board.
These are frameless cabinets and all drawers and doors are inset. My original plan was to use a drop-down front to the drawer/cutting board, so either can be pulled out independent of the other. However, I cannot figure out how to hinge the front so it leaves clearance for the drawer (about 1/8″). There are full extension side-mounted drawer slides that create 1/2″ clearance on either side of the drawer.
Any ideas out there??? Thanks!

Maybe a finger pull on the cutting board? (if i understand you)
My problem is how to have the drawer front (which is not actually attached to the drawer), open downward so either the drawer or cutting board can be pulled out. So I guess I'm looking for a special hinge that
1. Works on an inset panel, and
2. allows the panel to open 90 degrees outside of the carcase.
Is this a little clearer? I may not be describing it well. I'm thinking of something like a keyboard tray/drawer in which the front opens down.
By your description it sounds like a back flap hinge might be what you're after, probably along with a rebated fall flap joint. There is usually a bearer rail included in the construction, hollowed on the face opposite the knuckle and hinge leaves which allows for the swing of the flap (drawer front in your case.)
Ernest Joyce in the Technique of Furniture Making, Chapter 33 if you have a copy, illustrates the layout well, although I'd bet there are other sources that illustrate the configuration. Slainte.RJFurniture
Thank you, Sir. I will look this up.
