I let some boiled linseed oil dry into a sticky raised patch on a maple surface. Because of the somewhat gelatinous nature of dried linseed oil I am hesitant to take it off with an abrasive. What’s the best way to go about removing it?

I assume the rest of the surface has a normal amount of BLO on it? If so, I recommend scrapping the sticky puddled area with a card scraper. You can then just rub some more BLO on the surface and things should even out as far as finish.
I suppose turpentine might work too.

Yes, the rest of the surface has BLO. Thanks for the idea. Turpentine does not work.
