Hello All ! I am contemplating on building the Pennsylvania Secretary’s Desk, built by
Lonnie Bird in FWW magazine issue 154,155 and 156.
I have applied to FWW magazine for drawings for this project, but have been told that
they do not have drawings, I find this very strange, I don’t know if this means that they
never had drawings or that they are out of them.
I would find it difficult to build this, with only the drawings in issue’s 154 to 156.
Does any one out there have drawing that they are not using.
Many thanks

I'm not aware that there were any drawings for it, but I believe all the dimensions needed to build one are shown in the articles.
True, no bill of materials but that could be easily assessed.

I love looking at those Pennsylvania Secretary Desks ! Fascinating.
Perhaps a call to Mr. Bird.

Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. Abraham Lincoln ( 54° shaves )

Forgive me if I'm out to lunch, having not seen the article. But, you might find it worthwhile to do the drawings using Sketchup, based on what you have available presently.
Sketchup allows you to actually build using the computer. I have found this invaluable for ironing out the kinks and for getting an accurate idea of the build process. It really reduces mistakes and saves a lot of time.

Just curious. How much would you be willing to pay for a set of plans?

Ironically, Lonnie is offering that class next year over two weeks, and it's sold out. You could get on the waiting list though. I don't believe he ever supplied FWW with a set of plans, just the drawings in the article. In his classes, you don't get a set of plans either. If you are an experienced woodworker, the drawings might be enough for you. I've taken three classes from Lonnie, and highly recommend the experience of learning from him personally. It's a great school and I've had a great time every time, and look forward to going back. Tom
