I am having severe brain fade today..I am about to cut the ends of a simple box to be the start of a arch top jewelry box from 125yr old pine..I want to dovetail the corners..but cannot seem to remember what the formula is to get the box to finish out at 5 1/2 inches…front and back are 12 wide..the arch top is 5 1/2 inch at the base..any help would be mucho appreciated…..and maybe a 1×12 of red oak upside the head wouldnt hurt either..lol…oh..the dovetails are 1/2in blind..using the Porter Cable 12 inch model..last time I used it was 1996 I think…lol

hi--let me see--if 51/2 is the length of the box end --try adding twice the thicknessand subtracting the 2x-depth of cut and that might be your begining length -I am not out in the shop so tomorrow I'll double check-- if you try it --better use scrap wood first--
