Detecting glue squeeze-out before dyeing with a waterbased product
I have been stung with a noticeable glue line and some scratch marks that weren’t noticed until after applying a waterbased dye on my mahogany project. Normally I would use mineral spirits before applying wipe-on poly without dying. What product would be compatable with the waterbased dye undercoat??
Thanks, Greg

You might explain a little better what your delimna is. I could not follow you enough to provide an opinion.'
I normally will tape joints before glue-up to minimize the glue squeeze-out. Some will be on your wood but should be failrly easy to remove with a sharp chisel - carefully!
The use of mineral spirits before dyeing should show where you have glue that will not dye. You will have to remove that glue or suffer. If you are worried about the mineral spirits interfering with the dye, use denatured alcohol instead of mineral spirits.

Thank you for the reply. Sorry it was confusing. Your response was what I was looking for. My concern is mixing mineral spirits with the dye. I will use alcohol.
