I recently changed the blades on my jointer for the first time and cannot get the spring loaded guard to work properly. The machine is about 15 years old and the instruction book that came with it shows how to replace an updated version. This machine has a spring inside the guard which attaches to the table with a bolt. How do I attach it so it “springs” back against the fence as I run a board through it.
Thanks, Bruce

The guard pulls up and there is a knurled knob underneath the table. You have to twist the knob, to put tension on the spring, before you drop the forked peg of the guard in. If you twist the spring the wrong way it will open the guard, so just reverse it. You can also adjust the springback by the tension you put on, but you should adjust it for the far fence position.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
