I got the set from HD an they work fine. Be careful, I want to say the silver set is for box joints, but I'm not sure.
Bio.
no, the pro dado set is got the new silver ice coating, just dont know what the difference is.which blades are better? thanks clay
The difference is the coating. The DD208 has Silver I.C.E. which is a chromium alloy and the SD208 has PermaSHIELD which is PTFE with aluminum whiskers added for durability.

Freud America, Inc.
And which is better for what?Pete
Pete,They both have similar benefits (lower friction, easier to clean, rust prevention) but PermaSHIELD is the easier to clean of the two while the Silver I.C.E. is slightly more durable

Thanks.
hey charles, your answer is a bit lame.i love freud products, but your answer was non- definitive. Why would they make both coatings on the same blade if theres very little difference between the two? Is freud eliminating the pfte in favor of the silver ice?And by the way, the DD208 is the red coating(pfte) and the sd208 is the silver ice. Also will the dial-a-width blade cut better and last longer than either of the lower cost DD208 or the SD208? are any of the other stacked dado sets(5oo &300 series)a better bargain than the low cost ones? thanks Clay
Charles MAlmost all my blades I use now are Freud (tm). I am NOT a big fan of your thin kerf blades (Or for that matter ANY brand thin kerf). Just me..
Your blades seem to cut forever! I think I just change them because I'm to lazy to clean them up!
I have a Dial-a-Width that I never used... My saw (WHICH I like ALOT) A Ridgid from a Big Box... As in Home Depot in the USA. Your wrench does NOT fit my arbor nut!
OK, so I have tools to get around this... IF I HAVE TO!
Old timer here that will give it away to a younger woodworker, (YOUR CHOICE) IF I DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THE POSTAGE!
If you cut a lot of dadoes and want good repeatability go with the Freud dial a width. It's more money ( a lot more) but it is the best dadoe set I have used. No messin with shims and being able to adjust while still on the arbor is great.
Basically the same tooth configuration on both sets, but in a different color jacket so the two big retailers aren't competing head to head with it...
