I just picked up a used ridgid r4511 table saw. I want to get a dado set. Is a 6″ dado blade much easier on the saw then an 8″? Or it doesn’t really matter. There is a big difference in prices, and I don’t have plans to do deep cuts (but you never know).
Thank you

Recall Issue and 6 inch
First off you may want to check if your saw was subject to the recall from Ridgid:

You can definitely use a 6" dado blade on your saw and it should do all the cutting you need. They can be less expensive, easier on the motor and can be easier to handle during setup.
Also keep in mind according to the manual your saw is rated for a maximum width of 13/16" and doesn't restrict the use of an 8 inch dado like some underpowered saws do.
The 6-inch is easier on the motor
Quick math: Assume you are cutting the same width and depth of cut, the power required to do it is directly related to the length of the lever arm.
So, the radius on the 6-inch is three inches, and the radius of the 8-inch is four inches. Thus, the 8-inch takes 4/3 the power to make the same cut.
