Hello Everyone,
Might be a dumb question, but I have no experience with dado blades. I have never owned one. I have a Delta contractors saw 10″. However, the owners manual sez not to use a dado larger than 6″ ?? Why not an 8 inch? ( they seem to be more readily available, ) The question is not a challenge, I just would like to know for info purposes. Anyone know?
Thanx Eric

Eric, I must have missed that in the owners manual cause I've been using an 8" set in my Delta Contractors saw for several years now. No problems so far and I use it a lot.
Go with a 8" but just don't take heavy cuts with it.

Wieght / centrifical force thing.
The arbor / bearings can't deal with it.
My 16" limits me to 12" and the 10" to 8" cutter.

Definitely abide by the manual!! Not all Delta contractor saws are made the same and there must be a physical reason the saw will not accommodate a larger dado. To answer the depth of cut issue, most dadoes are 3/8" deep or less and a 6" dado set will cut 2" shallower than your 10" blades. That works out to roughly 1", plenty for most uses. Also the 6" takes a LOT less power to operate and is easier on the machine.
