I am interested to hear opinions on Cutlist plus software. Does it really save time in planning cutting lists and working out most economical use of sheet materials ?

I have downloaded the trial copy and found it to be pretty good little program. I don't us much sheet goods though and I stock pile large amounts of rough lumber. So I will usally make up a material list and head up to the shed and pick out what I need based on what I have. No two boards in the stack are the same width.
But I would buy a copy if sheet goods became a bigger part of my work.

*I use Sheet Layout which I think is the same type of program as Cutlist Plus. I mainlymake doors and windows although occasional bookshelves and cabinets etc. I find itextremely useful on all jobs using more than a few pieces. It doesn't have to be just forsheet materials - you can enter any size of board you like so its fine for solid timber aswell. You type in the size of your boards (you can have up to 12 different sizes I think)and then your cutting list - that's the long part although you can import it from aspreadsheet - then it calculates the layout in a few seconds. You then review the resultsand sometimes you can see ways of making minor changes to your cut list that willmake major savings in material and calculate again. Print out the layouts for eachboard and use them to tick off as you make each cut.I don't think I could go back to doing it manually now, I've been spoilt forever. Ifwoodworking is your living you will soon get your money back in time and materialsaved. Malcolm
*I use cutlist and really like it. Like Scott I use a lot of rough lumber. It does a great job of telling you how many boards of which size are required. A new feature was just added which I think makes this more than a simple layout program is that now you can create an inventory of what you have in the lumber rack and it will pick boards from this list. It really works great. For 25 bucks its a bargain.TDF
*Thank you for your comments. I will try it out and I'm sure it will be worth the cost. I'll let you know my opinions in due course.
