Laying up curved slab cabinet doors
Is there a better way, or is this it? 2 layers of 1/2″ bending ply, then a layer of cross-banded veneer on each side (using paper-back, so grain direction is irrelevant, I suppose, but intermediate layer assures good purchase for finish veneer, as bending ply is less than perfectly smooth), then finish veneer, each side.
Edges will be solid, about a 1/2″ or so, applied to substrate before first veneer layer. One issue, of course, is the appearance of the corner, as the edges of the veneers are visible (if minimal).
Please advise.

With only two layers, you're likely to have a little springback. You might build the doors before the carcass, so you can accomodate the springback. If you want less springback, use more layers of thinner plywood.
To eliminate springback use Urea adhesive not a pva or precat pva.
