Can someone tell me how to get a smooth finish like Crate and Barrel has on a lot of their furniture. I’ve put a link to a piece that I’m talking about.

To me it looks like they are using a closed grain wood, but they can pretty much hide ALL of the wood grain somehow and it just looks like a very smooth semi-gloss finish. Are they using some kind of grain filler? I can’t find anything that will do that.
Thanks!

There are lots of fillers on the market, for oak, I like to use a thin, soupy mix of plaster-of-paris, paint it on, let it set overnight, and sand it off. Try it on a piece of scrap, then apply your desired finish.
