At one time, one could buy certain parts of a lathe (headstock, tailstock, tool rest, etc) and build themselves a lathe using timbers for the bed. The parts were sold under the name of Conover (I’m guessing because they’re designed by woodturner Ernie Conover). They were made in Ohio, if I recall correctly. I’ve done some pretty thorough searching of the internet trying to find a source but turned up nothing. Does anyone know if they are still available and who sells the parts?

Why don't you check with Ernie Conover? If anyone would know he'd be the man. I see that he has some used machinery listed on his workshop site... so maybe he will have some parts too. I know that he is no longer in production with his lathe but he may have a few laying around in storage and he also does design consulting for other lathe companies so maybe he can direct you to a similar product that IS currently being made.

Ernie used to be in the experts section of this site. I note that he isn't any more. Anyone know why?
