This shows a partial disassembly of the Hydrovane compressor, which is a 3 phase turbine type capable of pumping 15cubic feet per minute-max pressure 150lbs.
The 3 horse motor is coupled direct to the pump – no belts, pistons, pulleys etc.
It was soon evident that the very hot outside air from the pump body had caused the motor bearing grease to melt- the bearings were not sealed but dust shield type.
Very easy job to replace both bearings with sealed type , re-assemble and all is right as rain. Very lucky escape, and it shows how good those Hydrovanes are.
By “right as rain” I mean it runs quite as a ghost, pumps to full pressure-and no oil in the air.

I see you have an eye for these things... that is a heavy duty item and the good thing is that you can lock the jaws onto the bearing by screwing that hand wheel. And it has various other jaws. Saved the day many times, on all kinds of things.Philip Marcou
>that hand wheel<Yes the cone shaped disc. I LIKE that ! The jaws can just spring and blow off without it. Did you make it ? Most of these are forged but yours doesn't look factory made it looks custom made or like a surgical tool !Surgical tools for dinosaurs ! Correct. It is made by the same company that makes or made panel beating tools- can't recall the name right now.Philip Marcou
