Hi there I could use some help on compound miters. I have a set of speakers that I’m finishing off with 1/2 round cherry and been a little stumped at getting the miter correct , the cherry ply is mitered at 45 deg and want to finsh it off with a nice cherry 1/2 round. I set up my Hitachi at 45 deg miter and 45 compound but just is not working out PLEASE help I’m having a bad brain day.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. You've beveled the face panel at 45°, right? If so, a half-round isn't going to work, no matter how you cut it. Here's a cross section showing what you've got:

See the problem? The 180° included angle of the half-round is too great--what you really need is a 90° angle, a quarter-round.
In any event, the angles you need in order to get the miters to close are: miter angle 35.26°, bevel angle 30.00°. There are lots of online compound angle calculators that will do the computations for you. For example: http://www.scarletta.net/WoodJoy/compound_miter.html

Yes I see your point but I was trying to treat this the same way you would do crown. I have to rethink the problem but many thanks for the info.

Make some scrap pieces with the 45 along the edge. Place this on the bed of the saw. Set to 45 for the mitre and cut the half round in place on the scrap. Don't cut all the way through the scrap.

If it's any help, crown sprung at a 45* angle is cut at 35.3 on the miter and 30* on the bevel. Makes no sense to me how it works, but it does.
