I am about to buy a new compound sliding miter saw. My choice is currently between the Dewalt DW779 or the Jet 707212. Any opinion on these? Thanks.

I have the next size bigger Dewalt and have been very happy with it. The one thing I love is the light, for a shadow line of were it will cut. I dont see it on that model, but very nice feature to have.
Next bigger size? I thought the 12" was the biggest Dewalt sliding miter?
Dewalt is a no brainer in my opinion not a fan of Jet tools.
Ok, I know people are going to disagree, probably strongly:) but I can guarantee that if the harbor freight Hercules is not equal to the dewalt then it’s not far off. Costs $370
I’ve used the hell out of every brand you can name. Also, it’s probably the only thing I’ve ever used from HF that I like, In general I’m not a fan of their products, but it’s a great machine.
I have the bigger DeWalt and cannot fault it.
Unlike cheaper saws you get real repeatability. If accuracy is important to you then the DeWalt is that. I compared with Bosch, Makita and Black and Decker versions of the smaller DeWalt and was surprised by the play.
If your purpose is rough dimensioning then go cheap.
If you want accurate mitres and compound joints then buy deWalt.
If you are not sure then go cheap. Seriously - you will not use the additional quality often enough to be worth it. You can always 'shoot' for perfection with a plane.
For me, the big saw is a great time-saver for making jigs and cutting massive pieces of timber. I am often doing farm fencing work, making big gates etc so a saw that is very accurate is not as important as one that is huge. I love though that the accuracy comes as standard with deWalt.
I've been using a Dewalt 12 inch double compound miter saw for over 10 years and I am very pleased with this product.
