Compare Grizz and Delta 8″ jointer
Hi, all,
I’m looking for anyone who owns a Grizzly G0500 or Delta 37-380 8″ jointer. I’m looking to purchase one soon, and any feedback pro or con is welcome.
On specs alone, Grizz seems to offer the better tool, owing to lower price, 4 knife cutterhead, 2 horse motor, magentic switch and longer bed. The Delta is in the running since it has a similarly sized bed (which doesn’t rely upon 5″ extensions, as the Grizzly does) and Amazon reviews were pretty favorable, more so than for the Jet and Powermatic.
So… I’m curious to know your ownership experience- out of the crate experience, tool quality, accuracy, and any customer service horror stories.
Cheers,
Seth

Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans .
When I was looking for a jointer I went first for the Delta 37-380(Professional Jointer) Because of the cost. I sent the fence back to bo replaced three times because it was warped). So I gave up on that model sent it back and went for the Delta 37-350 (Precision Jointer). I am pleased with how well it works. I am not familiar with the comparable Grizzly model but I do have some Grizzly tools. If you can, always go for the best tool you can afford it will pay for its self just in the pleasure you instead of frustration you will get out of it.
C,
Thanks for the advice. This is the kind of thing I've been wanting to hear; not that I have any philosophical issues with a manufacturer, but what "out of the box" problems to expect.
I agree with you totally that buying cheap inevitably leads to frustration. There is, of course, an opportunity cost between $900 for the Grizz and $1300 for the DJ-20; that extra $400 buys more wood!
I appreciate your input.
Cheers,
Seth
