I’m making a printer stand from poplar and want to finish it with tung oil because of its simple application. The wood was sanded, ending up with a 220 grit.
I know that I should first test the finish on a piece of scrap wood to see how it will look on the wood I’m using. However, before I invest money on so-called tung oil, or pure tung oil, and mineral spirts, I would like to get a general idea of the approximate color and degree of lightness or darkness of the wood once this finish is used. I’d appreciate any help on this question.

Pure tung oil darkens or "ambers" the wood only slightly, if at all. It would be foolish to try to describe to you what a quick swipe of oil on a cloth across the workpiece will show you.
