We’ve just finished up our youngest daughter’s wedding.
She married a Dane.
Some months ago, when the groom came ’round to visit the in-laws-to-be (that’s my wife and I), as he walked through the shop (that’s how you gain entrance to our home) he got my attention when he said, “Looks just like my granddad’s bench back home in Denmark.”
I was pleased since quite a few visitors here have never seen a Tage Frid bench or its near European relatives.
Of course I told the yooung Dane/groom about Frid’s bench plans being published in Issue 4 of FWW magazine and that Tage Frid was a transplanted Dane who came over to the Rhode Island School of Design and was disappointed in what was passing for workbenches available for the students at the school. That’s when his students all began making copies of Frid’s bench.
FWIW,

Welcome to the family! I would suggest setting the table for the other half for an afternoon feast. Rye or Pumpernickle, pickled herring, leverpostej, red cabbage, kartoffler with a little sugar & vinegar & onion, down it with a bottle of Akavivt, and have kringle & strong black coffee (with a shot of the water of life) for dessert. That ought to get you in good graces.

thanks, RW
May I take it then that you are of Danish ancestry?
Can you tell us what a Kransekage is?
Many thanks,
WilliamI make something, sometimes twice, each year.
Kage means cake, so Kaffekage is a coffee cake, AEblekege are "apple cakes" or those round balls that go in the funny pan but taste oh so good, Frugt means fruit, and Kranse is ring or circle. So its a ring cake, and theres a few variations, but its basically the kringle I was talking about, shaped in a ring. Its a pastry dough, rolled out, then you put butter, sugar, almonds, sometimes things like raisins or cinnamon in it, folded up, and put in a ring shape. We stick to the butter, sugar, and almond for the inside, and pretty much do the same on the outside, litter the top with almond slices. Might I recommend Breakfast Blend as the kaffe du jour with your meal? Good stuff. I could probably get you an entire recipie book of Danish grub if you were actually interested in it."The child is grown / The dream is gone / And I have become / Comfortably numb " lyrics by Roger Waters
