Hi everyone,
I’m in the process of completing a router jig/table. I’ve used birch plywood, MDF & maple and would like to seal and protect the wood from dirt as well as provide a smooth clear finish (not to smooth for safety reasons) any suggestions poly, shellac, etc.
Thanks for your comments and/or suggestions.

I used poly on mine.
At Darkworks cut to size made to burn......Putty isnt a option
Well Ron it seams unanimous so I’ll go with poly.
Thanks for your response,
RickL
And if you seal one side of a piece of wood, seal the other side as well. Otherwise, changes in shop humidity will warp your nice jig (speaking from experience).
Shellac works well for me.

Like Ron, poly. Triple coat and sand between coats. Seal everything. Top, edges and bottom. Have fun with the table once it is finished. You won't regret the ease of operation it provides.

Thank you all for your input,

I just finished one and must agree with the crowd. Poly. Be sure to finish all sides.

Rick,
For what its worth...the new benches at woodcraft are finised with lacquer. ...they seem to have a subtle matting finish which accomodates sliding but is not slippery.
I rubed out my shellac finish with oil and 400 grit....the sawdust slides off...good news/bad news
