Hi, I need to make some quick “cheap” kitchen cabinet doors. I don’t have the space for a table saw and can’t quite justify a Festool TS55 or 75.
I need to make panels out of 3/4″ maple plywood. Front edge will be covered but inside revealed.
In the past I have made guides out of plywood and used a decent blade, it’s been a few years and I can’t recall exact quality. This time it’s for a friend and I want it a little closer to perfect.
I have to try this way first and if it’s a no-go I’ll re-evaluate.
Can any one offer and tips? How about a premium 7 1/4″ blade for such a cut?
I have more time than money alotted for this project so….
Thanks,
Al

Use the guide and if you want a really nice cut, score the cut line first. Good side down when using skill saw and score the top with a utility knife. Done this many times with very good results.

Try one of the red Freud "Diablo" 40-tooth blades. They do a pretty good job with hardwood plywood.

Thanks,I've done it this way in the past but never for finish quality. I'm thinking about a way to make a Festool type guide rail that would work the same with a Skilsaw. Of course it wouldn't plunge but the rip capability would make it worth some planning. If any on-line plans for such a thing......Al
I think you're describing a simple shooting board.********************************************************

Score the cut line and then tape it with masking tape before cutting.
Al, I just cut up an old ratty 4x8 of weathered ply sheathing that I had left out side after a job to make a few platforms to do some fence work on my saw horses. I am using a pc 7 1/4 mag left and a Hitachie (sp) lazer cut $9 blade. I have used pc/dewalt/ irwin and others but this blade was so sharp that I cut my finger just hanging it on the saw and it cut like a razor, no fuzzies(even on that ratty ply). I bought it at home despot or lowe's. Go for it. Pat
