My church has asked me to repair a pew that sustained water damage to the extent that the veneer is peeling off, chipping and breaking.
I don’t have any experience with repairing veneers. I have applied them on several occassions though. Is there a way to patch and repair what’s existing or do I plan to remove and replace?
Any comments from experienced workers are welcome.

Hi Nixajim
what is the base of the pew made of ? is the veneer layed on solid wood or plywood.if on solid, I would remove all the damaged veneer and apply all new. if hide glue was used you could try to use a damp cloth and a iron to see if it will release and then lay down. hope this helps. mark
Hello Nixajim
Your reward is certain.
Veneers can be glued back down by injecting glue underneath and clamping. Sometimes heating with a cloths iron and pressing can afix loose veneers.
Providing the chips are not too big - filling with a colored filler can work.
Mostly it depends on the size of the damage.
Pictures would help determine the procedures -
