The August issue of This Old House mentions a “chip plane,” although it looks more like a chisel in a jig instead of a plane. It’s used to hide nails. It peels up a curl of wood from the surface. You hammer a finish nail in the groove, then glue the curl back into place to conceal it.
You could use a chisel for this task but it’s easier to accidentally detach the curl.
Anybody know where to get a chip plane?
