Harbor Freight is having a sale on Cen-Tech 6″ Digital Calipers for $15.99. I was wondering if anyone out there has these and whether you feel it is a good deal. I do not have any calipers and at Rockler I think the same type of thing is upwards of $30. Thanks.

Buzz,
The Rockler calipers look very similar to the Grizzly caliper combo and the same price...I got the Grizzly free with the cabinet saw.

I bought this same caliper set about 1 1/2 years ago and was very impressed with the all heavy metal construction, extra battery and nice case. I think it's a great buy and would recomend it to anyone in the market for an accurate and low priced precision tool.

Thank you Jon, you sold me. Do you work for Harbor Freight? (he he )...Regards,

Nope! But I admit I was really surprised at the way the caliper was constructed. Seems that "you get what you pay for" ain't always the case.

Ya know Jon, I went to order them and they were taking on about $4 for Shipping and then another $6 for handling so I decided that the deal wasn't that good. I can go to Rockler which is nearby and pick up a comparable caliper without having to wait for it to be mailed. Thanks for your help but I didn't realize what the additional charges would be until I actually had the order on my screen.Regards,

Buzzsaw, I have had those calipers for over a year now and they've been a good addition to the shop. I checked them for repeatability when I first got them, and periodically since and have had no problems. The action (with the little thumb wheel) may not be as smooth as a more expensive set, but as far as functionality for woodworking goes, they work great.

I also have a set of these calipers. I think I paid $30, and still considered it a good deal. I've been quite pleased. My only issue is that it would be nice to work in fractions rather than in decimals. At that price, I'm thinking of getting a 2nd set...
