try sanding it with some 180 grit Vernon
I agree with sanding, but would try 220-grit first.
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)

Try a sharp (card) scraper. The shavings are not as invasive as the dust, however, sanding will work just fine if you don't mind the dust. JL
