It would be much easier to clamp pieces to the tables on the drill press, band saw, … if the bottom of the cast iron table were flat. I’m not very knowledgeable regarding metal working. Is there any problem that result from attaching plywood or wood infill with epoxy or double stick tape to the underside of the cast iron? Thanks.

I have taken plywood and cut to fit around and over webing on the underside of the table and used construction adhesive to attach it with. I have done this with table saws, and router tables, and have had great success. I made sure that the thickness was equal to the depth of the underside of the table, so you are not fighting with the edge of the table. I leave the clamps attached at least over night.
I've been doing that with my drill press table (plywood inserts under the edges). Have had fantasies of just turning it upside down and filling those gaps with epoxy or that fiberglass (whatever!) stuff the little ladies in Florida use when making their craft things.

Don,
I too am aggravated by the underside (read: darkside)of the drill press ...but is the solution to fill it in or attach a larger surface to the top ...and maybe a larger surface that has a fense? Does anyone know how the store bought drill press table tops get attached ?
I have a plywood aux. top that has wood "ells" that slide over the outer lip of my C.I. top (DELTA) it has a 4x4 removeable cutout under the Quill when it is squared to the coulum two small c lamps at the rear hold it. Great for tackin a fence to or drum sanding with the 4x4 insert removed..make a bunch of inserts and when they get holy flip them or chuckem in the fire.
