I am getting ready to purchase the Beall buffing system to use on small items like jewelry boxes and lathe turned items. The final finish applied using this system is Carnauba wax; I have never used it and am wondering if it is safe for items such as wooden salad bowls and turned baby rattles. Thanks. Gary

I would say safe depending on any additives. I use it quite a bit, although I haven't made any thing in quite a while that had to be child safe. Here is a link to some more info, a quick search using Alta Vista turned up a lot of material.

I'm pretty sure carnauba wax is the main wax in waxed paper used for food contact.
Here's another link: http://www.spwax.com/spcarnau.htm
Wax paper is made with parafin.
When the solvents used to make the wax soft and spreadable have evaporated, it is non-toxic.
Are the salad bowls going to be used? It will just come off if so.
They have used food grade carnauba for decades.
A chemist once told me that products like non-dairy creamer are essentially high-grade carnuba!Rich
Sure has that mouth-feel. Remember chewing on wax lips?

According to Wikipedia:
Seems safe enough.

oh sure, if you want to trust the food and pharmaceutical industries... :)
Thanks to all; I am now confident in its usefulness and safety. Gary.
