I am looking for a source for metal or glass candle holder inserts. I am creating wooden candle holders and would like to have some nice inserts to secure the candles. I have searched the web for a day or two and have not been very successful.
I have attached a web image which shows an inexpensive candle insert. I would prefer an insert a bit nicer or more ornate that the ones shown.
Thanks for your help.

You could make one by starting with a copper pipe cap (what you'd solder to the end of a pipe to seal it) and polish/decorate it by spinning with a lathe/drill press and file cuts etc.
I am sure at http://www.mcmaster.com you can find fancier materials, too.
Thanks for the suggestion, Pezzi. However, my time at this moment is too limited so I would prefer to find these ready made for my use. Thanks again.
Try the various internet sites that supply churches.
Cokesbury is one, I'm sure there are many others.
Thanks for that bit of info. You are correct about that because during my search a lot of church sites did pop up. I will look into that.
try arts and craft stores, e.g.

I too was looking for something more ornate as I used to get some with a bottom but couldn't find any so I purchased the candle furrels from Rockler and when I inserted them into the Advent wreath they did look pretty good. I admit not as nice as the old holders I once used . The old style with the bottom and a screw in the bottom to hold them in place came from Rockler about 15 years ago.
Thanks for your post comments. I never even knew that inserts with a bottom used to come with a screw to hold them down. Great idea or least it used to be. Shame those are no longer available. This is not good news to me. I have continued to spend time searching the web, but thus far all I'm seeing is the same 'ol, same 'ol. Not very encouraging. This must be one of those 'no demand, no production' things. Makes sense if looked at in that perspective. Or perhaps I have not looked hard enough.Bottom line for me is why go to all the trouble to make a very nice candle holder and diminish it with a two-bit insert?? I appreciate your time.Phillip Anthony
I just sent the good folks at Lee Valley a plea to mount the troops. They have helped me in the past, so perhaps they can locate a source for us.Will report back when I hear back from them.Phillip

Craft Supplies USA - Last time I checked they had a couple different types and they have been a pleasure to do business with in the past.
Thanks for the post and the link. I have sent Customer Service an email as I did not see anything in their online catalog that would suffice.Phillip
Ok, folks. I think we hit the jackpot. I for sure did.First of all, Thank You! Pajono for the link to http://www.woodturnerscatalog.com/. I sent them an email yesterday and they responded today. Here is the link to these items in their online catalog:http://tinyurl.com/9hfe7zI missed these when I searched their website but I was searching for candlestick 'inserts'. They refer to them as 'Candle Cups'. No wonder I have not located them on the internet. If you'll notice, these 'Candle Cups' are gold plated. And, they're on sale to boot. Can't beat that with a stick. I just called them because I was concerned about the body (barrel?) being uniform in diameter. I was told that they were. I plan to drill a shallow hole to embed about half of the body and let the remainder protrude above the candle holder. Thanks to everyone who pitched in on this one. Pajono, your pizza'a on the way.Phillip Anthony
Good news. 1 large pizza with 3 toppings will do nicely. Pepperoni, breakfast bacon (not Canadian), and tomato, or onion.
They are a good source for most things woodturning related. Just for kicks, here are a few more sites that may be interesting. Not affiliated with any of them, but like some of their products and the service I've received. Just trying to earn a couple beers to go with that pizza. Have a great evening.

Phillip, if you don't find something to your liking from the posts above, drop me an email. I have a good friend who owns a candle shop, and carries some turned candlesticks made by a local woodworker. Might be able to get a source for you.
