I was experimenting with a leg to rocker joint for a rocking chair. However, I have no idea if this thing has a name. Compound bridal? Double tricky lap lap? I don’t know.
My other (and perhaps more important) question is…will this thing hold up to the daily stresses of a rocking chair?

Apparently I am not yet smart enough to attach a picture to this web site's forum. I'll try to get some education and post it later.
Might not be you at all. I just saw a post with a picture problem from somebody I know knows how to post pictures. More education is good, but try again later even if you don't learn anything.

Apparently, I am still dumb. I just can't figure this out. Well I say we either close this thread or else I'll tape a picture to my screen and everyone press their faces to there's and look realllllly hard.

Chad -
Bring up the pic on your monitor using whatever progam (Word?) that will let you do it. Make the pic fill up as much of the screen as possible. Then, hit 'ALT' and while still holding that key down, hit 'Prnt Screen'. The Prnt Screen key is on the very top row over at the right.
When you do that, a copy of the screen will be put into the 'clipboard'. Then go to your favorite pic editor program and 'Paste' the screen content to a new file. Save the pic as a JPG file.
Anything you see on the screen can be captured in this fashion.

Mike, near as I can tell, you can simply right-click and select copy to do the same thing, and you don't have to enlarge the pic so much that it'd be a PITA to deal with on Knots. I think you could go up to "Edit" and select copy also.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Yeah, but some programs don't allow that under some conditions.

Chad, did you try to make an attachment, or did you try to have the picture "in-line" -- i.e., show up directly in your post?

It's an "invisible joint."
Three people posted before me and NOBODY went for the easy laugh?

Reading this again, see no where this is an Invisible Joint! EXPLAIN PLEASE!If nothing sticks to Teflon, how does Teflon Stick to metal. Huh
I tried both actually. The problem is that I sometimes save pics within Word Documents instead of jpegs on the 'ol hard drive.
So, trying to post them is difficult. I no longer have a simple jpeg of this picture and this site won't let me post a word document I don't think...although I didn't try it. Maybe I will when I get home tonight.

When you need help, call in the InfantTree....unless you're trying to post pictures onto the Internet. Then not even the real infantry will be of much service, let alone me.

[ok, this is the second time with this reply. darned software!]
Chad, I suspected when I saw how your initial post stretched out across (and beyond) my monitor screen, that you had tried to post the pic(s) within the text rather than as attachments. A couple of tips here, hope you don't take offense. (a) If you do insert pics right into your response, please make sure the pic file size is real small (like 30Kb or less). Otherwise, the extended downloading can aggravate someone (like me) who's on dial-up and trying to read the responses. (b) If you do need to refer us to a much bigger file, and it cannot be attached for whatever reason, give us a link to it, on your FTP site for instance (usually your "personal web space" with your ISP).
PS: The little hyperlink icon up above the Reply composition box is handy when you have a reallllllllly long URL to put into a reply. Enables you to highlight a few words, and link them to the URL.
Let me know if you need any help. Hit me upside the head if I'm being a twit, LOL.

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying again!
Oh, and I have dial-up as well...I feel your pain sister.

Photo appears when you click on the attachment.
That joint has a name...it's called "good joinery." Did you do that by hand or machine?
Compound bridle joint? That seems like the most logical.

I agree with Tony that that is a bridle joint. Perhaps Earnest Joyce has a name for it, but my copy is at home.

Infantree,
How about "housed bridle joint"? Good job!
Regards,
Ray
Well, I can't name it - it's a bridle joint housed into a bridle joint housed into a bridle joint - perhaps compound bridle sort of describes it.
It won't move, anyway.
Where's Sgian or Lee when you need them?
Cheers,

You don't need me Eddie. It looks something like a locked bridle with a halving joint to me, ha, ha. Slainte.RJFurniture
Thanks Richard,
I'd never come across anything similar.
