I am making 32 raised panel doors, 14 1/2″ X 24″. Am I beter off making the stiles longer than necessary, then cutting them to final length after glueing? It seems to me I saw this done before but I can’t remember where. As I am new to building doors any advise will be appreciated. Thanks, George

Make your stiles about an inch longer overall. Also make each stile about a 1/4" wider overall. Your rails obviously have to be exact length, but make them also about an 1/4" wider. Mill all parts at the same time. Glue all doors. Rip each side to final width. Make sure you leave enough for a pass over the jointer on each side. Now you can cut to final length. If you have a crosscut sled or even better a sliding table for your table saw you've got it made. If not you might have to assemble one end of door flush, for an square reference. Or you could use a straight edge and circular saw. The latter would be very time consuming and you will have more to clean up on the ends. I could go on and on but I'm not going to. I don't know what you have for machinery or tools? I hope this helps...John E. Nanasy
Thanks for the ideas John. I will make a sliding top. I have a Powermatic 66 w/52" fence coming before the end of the month ( I am told ). I wanted to wait till that arrived to build a sled. I have the maple boards next to the fireplace, keeping dry till it's time for them to go to the shop. I do have a 6 "jointer, 2 planers, one is a RBI 20" planer/moulder, the other a Makita 2040 15 1/2". and at present Delta contractor saw.
We saw most of our lumber with a Woodmiser from trees we harvest off our property. Just finished 8,000 Bf of cherry not long ago, looked great when it came back from the kiln! We have also cut a lot of white pine, maple and yellow birch. The pole building is getting full!
Thank again, George
