I am trying to build a bookcase into this area. I have never seen one in this exact space. If anyone has any input or where I could see an example I would really appreciate it, before I start making it.

OK..... I see the picture but where are you wanting to put a book case ? where the crib is? Or where to the right of the door in the little recess? How deep is that recess, are there studs in the wall there, if so what is the spacing? Is the book case for books, or knick knacks. If books, are we talking college text books or paper backs?
Mike
Thanks for the reply. Sorry the pic was so big, I can't seem to shrink it down. I want to make an L shaped bookcase that goes around the corner between the crib and the closet door(on the left). I was really looking for some pictures of similar projects, so I could judge how I should make it( should I take it to the ceiling, make flush with the wall or let it stick out a little, and how the mouldings will fit in).

I like the idea of wrapping it around the corner. I don't have any pictures of this, but here is what I would do. I would make the small section right of the door protrude as little as possible past the wall the door is in. It looks like the case will only be 6" deep. I would radius the shelves around the corner then increase the depth on the side wall to 10". As far as the moldings I think I would use the same base moulding that is there already for the base and If the ceiling is 8' bring it all the way to the top by scribing a simple crown to the ceiling. If the ceiling is 10' then I would make the cabinet 8' tall topped with the same crown. This looks like a bad spot for a cabinet. I would tape off the foot print on the floor and maybe build a simple cardboard mock up to be sure that it will look OK.
Mikeplease excuse my spelling.
thanks for the reply. the ceilings are 8ft, so i will take it to the top. then i will prob. do crown moulding on the rest of the room to help tie it in, one thing leads to another.
I like the idea of crowing the whole room as well. Though if you do the radius idea it will get complicated.
Mikeplease excuse my spelling.
thanks for the help. i finally got around to building the case. it took about 10 hrs to do.
Great job!
By the way this is "mike" I had to pick a new handle after the changes. It came out better than I thought. excellent execution, it fits in perfectly with the walls. I am amazed that it only took 10 hours! Did that include finishing? Are the sides frame and panel or sheet material in a rabbit? Lastly if it is not too late I would rehang the crown to close up the gaps with the ceiling. I dont think that the crown being crooked would be noticible.
Mike
I made the cases out of 3/4 plywood, used dados for the shelves, and the panel on the end is a fake. i just used some 3/4 poplar and trim. i built the two cases in my shop then took them outside and sprayed them. all of that took the 10 hours, matching the baseboard and doing the crown moulding took another 3 give or take. the problem with the top of the crown moulding is that the celing is 2 inches lower at one end of the shelve than the other(130 yr old house). i mounted it as crooked as i could without it looking bad. i think i may try to caulk the celing gap, but i haven't yet decided.
Can I saw I hate that shadow line at the top of the molding?EDIT! SAY!

If you want help, resize your pix so we can see ALL the space at once .Try get your file size to 25-50kb.Test in the Sandbox and save us the frustration
don't really unnerstand your question-
you have a space with bumpouts/angles, just build to suit.
