Did you source the wood at different times or locations? From the picture, it looks like many different shades and grain patterns.

I went to Mr. Shipsky's again yesterday and built another box. got the finish on today (danish oil) and it turned out excellently. the sides are cherry and top is walnut.

The table top looks fine to me. From the second photo of the top glued and cut to the oval shape, it looks as if you have done a pretty nice job of matching the figure. Keep up the good work.

Andy-I like the length/width proportions. A couple of questions about your technique: How did you lay out the oval? And what did you use to cut and shape it?
I used the old 2 screws and a string technique. and I used my sabre saw to roughcut it and a beltsander on a table to round it perfect.
