I enjoyed Mark Schofield’s article on blotch-free cherry in FW#200. My questions are should the same preparation techniques be used when finishing cherry veneer plywood? Because the veneer is relatively thin it as susceptible to blotching as solid wood? <!—-><!—-><!—->

Thanks Gina. I look forward to his response.Best regards,Steve
Steve,
The thing to remember is that you are dealing with two very different materials so you'll need to make two samples boards and not only see if either or both blotch, but also be prepared for the plywood to accept the dye/stain differently from the solid wood. It will probably absorb more, so you may need to use a more intense dye mixture on the solid wood. As with all finishing, dial in all the steps on sample boards before you experiment on the workpiece. Good luck. MS
Thank you very much for your reply and advice. I’ll make sure I test all finishing schemes on sample boards before committing to a project.<!----><!----><!---->
