A friend of mine is selling me his Dad’s old lathe – I don’t have a grinding wheel so is there another way to sharpen the turning tools? I use scary sharp for my chisels and plane irons.
Thanks,
Brian

I alternate between a grinder (followed by rouge on a felt wheel) and a disk sander (on my belt sander combo). Use the disk sander carefully - a light touch - and you can obtain a very sharp edge from a 180/240 grit disk. Add a felt wheel and it will become razor sharp. And all this takes under 1 minute. The third option, one that is more foolproof, is to use a belt sander. Have a look at the latest version of FWW for my jig (in Methods of Work).
