I recently emailed Delta with confusion as the Delta Bandsaws 28-206 seems quite similar to the X5 28-475. I was aware of the extra 1/2hp that the X5 28-475 has and the 5 year warranty.
Delta responded with: “The difference is the 1.5 HP motor is a much more powerful motor and the 28-475X is a better built tool. It also features the longer warranty and a rebate offer.
Regards,
End User Services”
Does anyone else have any other input on differences or is this really the identical tool?

I called Delta on this question (several months ago) and the guy I talked to after looking several things up said it looked like the primary difference was the warranty (5 yr) that they priced into the product. He couldn't find any other differences in their specs -- it seems to me the HP at the time was also the same.
I beleve one of the differences between these two models is that the X5 bandsaw is made in the USA and the other model is built offshore. Does this make a difference in the build quality of the machine? I don't know.

When I spoke to Delta they were both made offshore.
This must be a recent manufacturing change by Delta. I purchased my X5 14" bandsaw two years ago and it has a big sticker right on the machine "Proudly made in the USA".

These replys reflect my experience in trying to communicate with Delta. There are no woodworkers anywhere near a telephone in that company. I get a different answer everytime I try to find something out. Nothing against the folks who work there, but they are definitely parts orderers.
I bought the 28-206 after deciding the extra 1/2 horse was not worth another $250. The length of the warranty is nice, but I've never had anything break under warranty anyway. Most things only break when I drop them. I believe the table on the 206 was bigger also.(16x16) I haven't done it, but I'll bet you can download the manuals on each machine and compare them page by page to see how they differ. I'm done calling them for anything other than ordering. And the 206 is definitely made in China. I took some filing for me to get the riser kit on and the guards laying straight. But it works for me and it fit in my budget.
