Which is the better material — tried and true rubber? or the newer urethane? I need to change the tires on my 20″ Delta/Rockwell and don’t know if the cost of urethane is worth it. Besides the ease of installation is there any other benefit to the urethane?
Happy Holidays to all.

Natural rubber typically lasts 10 years or so while urethane lasts indefinately--or so they claim. Rubber tires are less expensive than the urethane.
BTW, from my experiance, urethane tires are not easier to put on. In fact, they can be quite difficult even after being heated in boiling water.

Thanks-
I guess you can tell that my info came from advertisements and not necessarily objective opinions.
Which way would you go? Urethane? Rubber?
Do urethane tires get crowned like rubber tires? Same type of set-up for crowning?

Chris,
I had to replace one tire on my less than one year old 14' Delta. I put a urethane on the bottom wheel. The tire does not fill the space and, I believe, is aligned to the front lip. After replacing I centered the blade so that it tracks in the middle of the upper tire...therefore it is not centered on the lower tire. Don't know if this will cause problems..but it is an issue with the urethane (carter I believe)

On my 14" Jet, I purchased the OEM rubber replacement tires. They were only a few bucks. They are crowned when you receive them.Howie.........
Urethane is NOT easier to install. And do not put the tires in boiling water. You will ruin the tires.
Most instructions say to soak the tires in hot water.
The tires, either rubber or urethane, are stupidly easy to put on. It took me all of 30 minutes to install them. Starting with removing the wheels, soaking the tire, installing and re-installing the wheel.
Add another 30 minutes to tune up the saw, check the bearings and get the wheels squared and aligned.
Regards,
Boris
