John, the sled you designed to test bandsaws for the magazine has made a big splash over at WWA. Naturally, folks are wondering about a plan. Any chance you’ll post a drawing somewhere??

Hi Forestgirl,
I built that sled specifically for testing of the saws and I cut a lot of wood on it for that article and another band saw test we did a few years ago.
To be honest, the sled is cumbersome to use, requires several minutes to set up and adjust, and the stock being sawn needs to be screwed onto the carriage from behind with brass screws that will get sawn off during the last few cuts if you are going to use all of the stock. It isn't a practical design for day to day use, doesn't offer any real advantage over resawing by hand, and it has relatively limited capacity. It is however a blast to watch.
Nice to be back online after taking a month off to move back to Vermont. I'm now the facilities manager for the Yestermorrow School in Waitsfield, VT but will continue to write and do videos for FWW.
Hope you are well,
John
Hi, John. I dropped the ball on this thread and forgot to come back and check for a response. Thanks, though, I just quoted you in Knots where someone there had asked about getting a plan for the sled. Seems we crave hands-off woodworking, LOL!
You say "moved back to Vermont" -- does that mean "back" as in "to where we once were" or "back" as in "back there in the woods"??forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
