I’m in the Chicago area and looking for a solid source of figured woods. I have a last minute Christmas gift idea for my wife and need either 8/4 Lacewood or Quartered Curly Red Oak.
Has anyone bought from either Curly Wood or WestPenn Hardwoods? If I can’t find a local source I thought I would order from one of them.

This site specializes in figured woods. They may have what you want. Minimum order is $100.00

Wall lumber might also have what you want.

I get 99.9% of my lumber from Groff and Groff. They have never disappointed me. I checked the catalog and they have 8/4 Lacewood, but I see no mention of curly red oak, but that doesn't mean they don't have it. They have an ad in every issue of Fine Woodworking. There is no minimum and they ship quickly via UPS or a common carrier depending on the size of your order.
