I’m looking to build a repro of the old colonial knife boxes you see in restored homes. They’re about 15″ tall of carved wood, made to hold the precious silverware vertically. Like these:
Has anyone ever seen plans for such a box, or know the technique for shaping the front of the box?

Kent,
Steve Lash of the SAPFM built a set of these a few years back.
Had a construction article published on them.
Also, you could try the Olde Mill shop, see if Bess Naylor or Gene Landon have any plans.
As I recall, the boxes are veneered, so the trick was veneering the curved surface.
The other interesting part was the interior dividers, and facing them with fabric.
Let us know how you do with them,
Mike
Mike,
Thanks so much for the lead. I wasn't aware of Lash's work - he really has done some nice pieces. From the SAFM site I found that their magazine had an article on his box, "The Knife Case Design and Construction". I've ordered that back issue. If I ever get one made, I'll post it here. Kent
