While I still have some of that stimulus check, I have decided I want to add an air filtration system. My shop is 22′ X 34″ and is 12′ high. Unless my math is fuzzy, I think that is just under 9,000 cubic feet. I have been thinking about getting the JDS 750. According to JDS, the unit will filter 7,200 once every 10 minutes or my shop in about 13 minutes. The unit is three stage(200 to 700 cfm) and is remote controlled.
I would appreciate feedback on airfiltration units in general and the JDS in particular.

I don't know too much, but I do know that as long as you have a dust collector, an air filtator is a good next step
The next level is here.... Turning.
Wellll, I have two. One Penn State and one Delta. They keep sawdust off the floor but not fine dust out of the air.
Thanks for responding.
I have the JDS and would definitely buy another if need be. According to the research I did before I found mine, luckily at an auction, they are quite well designed, tight and well-made.
If you like yours and have the room, you cold get another down the road and set them up to really clean the air quickly.
Thanks FG. It is good to hear from someone who owns one. I should have one already but better late than never.
Cool
Cool, I think you'll really appreciate it once you have one up and running. If I've been bandsawing or ripping several boards on the table saw, I can really tell the difference in the air after the filter has run for awhile.
Note, though, the dust doesn't disappear instantly. If I'm creating noticeable airborne dust (usually because my machine based DC isn't as good as it should be), I wear a dust mask while operating, then flip on the filter and take a break for 10 or 15 minutes.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
FG, thanks or your comments.
I have always use thos kinds of facemasks that are"form fitted" with the little metal strip at the top where one can fit to the nose. They ware always open somewhere along to bottom but better than nothing. Two years ago, I went to a medical supply store and found some masks made for hospital personnel. They had the band at the top with looped elastics on each side for fitting around the ear. They were also pleated so that when I pulled the bottom down under my chin, I get a precise fit.
The main reaason I want the JDS is because after I shut down the wood cutting machine, I want to take the mask off within 10-15 minutes or so. Hopefully the JDS will allow it.
You can get the pleated masks through Lee Valley. The only kind I wear! Next step up is a respirator, which I use when finishing, or when cutting spalted maple.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I have the respirator. I rarely use it as I try to stay away from spray painting as much as possible. I really do not like wearing it but thare are times when it is essential.
I am going to look at LV tonight and see what they have. LV is one of my favorite companies.
Cool,Had a JDS since the dark ages. First on, last off--about 1 hour later. Tight unit, only service I have done is clean filter and once in a great while take the bag section and rinse in dish soap and cold water gently. Changes fabric structure of internal bag slightly but not so that you would notice. I'm sure JDS would take exception. Very little dust on surfaces later. Mounted high and on outer fringe of power tool work area. Used in conjunction with DC. In light use, clean outer filter every 10 weeks or so, heavy use, every two or as soon as it looks "tan".BB
BB. Thanks for the tips. The reason I am setting at my computer right now is to order one.
Most WW mags have a section featuring tips from readers. Just recently, there was one from a wwer who ties a ribbon in front of the unit and watches that from time to time and when the ribbon starts dropping from horizontal, he knows it is time to change (or clean) the filter.
Cool
