Just two days ago my Sears compressor has developed a leak… doesn’t hold air… this is an older model, 3 HP with 220 volt power. I need help finding the leak or what parts to replace or tighten… the air escapes around the motor somewhere.
One other thought is to just start over with a new compressor… any ideas out there.

When a pressure switch shuts off it releases air from the check vavle on the tank to the head so it doesn't start under a full load. The leak is from the check valve which can get hung up.
Basically it's a spring loaded nylon plug or one way valve. Should be simple fix.
The same thing happened to my Hitachi and I ground down the rubber/nylon plug on the outside some so it would move freely. That was about 8 years ago.
I had a similar problem with an old Sanborn. Look at the valves in the tops of the cylinders, mine had a blown gasket.
